Culinary Queen Barefoot Contessa of East Hampton and Food Network Superstar Ina’s Garden has a new Unmissable dinners cookbook coming out October 25th. The hardcover, which is her 13th cookbook to date, will be available at all your favorite East End bookstores, and it’s up for pre-order from online retailers. Garten also has signed copies, complete with autographed bookplates, available for $35 on his website, barefootcontessa.com/cookbooks.
According to an exclusive interview with People Monday, Garten says she wrote Unmissable dinners (posted by Clarkson Potter) at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when she was locked out at home, not going out for meals and exhausted from cooking all her meals and those of her husband Jeffrey, three times a day. “I’ve found easier ways to cook delicious dinners with Do-It-Yourself, Do-it-Yourself, Freeze and ‘Two Iron’ recipes – cook a dish that becomes something totally different the next night,” a- she revealed to People.
In a nutshell, Garten told his 3.4 million Instagram followers on Monday, “Cooking during the pandemic got pretty crazy, even for me, so I came up with all kinds of ways to cook dinner on the table with less stress.”
In Unmissable dinners, Garten shares strategies for making her most satisfying and simple dinners. The editor points out that many recipes, like Overnight Mac & Cheese, are designed to be made ahead and tossed in the oven just before dinner. Light dinners like Tuscan White Bean Soup can be made ahead and put together at the last minute, and family meals like Chicken in a Pot with Orzo and Hasselback Kielbasa will feed a crowd with very little effort. These facts – and because not everyone has the time or inclination to cook elaborate meals from scratch after a long day at work or caring for children – could make this one of the books Garten’s most popular and essential kitchen sets to date!
Other highlights include “breakfast for dinner” recipes for Scrambled Eggs Cacio e Pepe and Roasted Vegetables with Jammed Eggs that are easy to make yet thoroughly satisfying. Garten’s “Two Irons” guides readers on ways to turn leftover dinner into something different and delicious the next night, and she even offers dinners that don’t need to be cooked. Unmissable dinners features Garten’s favorite boards to serve with store-bought ingredients, like an antipasto board and breakfast board for dinner that are really fun to put together and impressive when served.
Finally, because Garten loves a good dessert, she shares recipes for easy-to-make sweets, such as Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie and Beatty Chocolate Cupcakes.
Along with the publication of Unmissable dinners on the horizon, the brand new series of Garten Be My Guest with Ina Gartenwhich was filmed at his East Hampton home, will premiere with its first half-hour episode on Food Network this Saturday, March 26. The show also features an extended hour-long cut with more non-food content and conversation (Hamptons related) on Discovery+, and a companion podcast.
Julianna Margulies (Emergencies, The good wife) will appear on this week’s show as Garten’s first guest on the show. Other guests scheduled to appear include Erin French (The lost kitchen on the Magnolia network), Willie Geist (from MSNBC morning joe), and the director/producer couple Hollywood/Sagaponack Rob Marshall and John DeLuca.
