Golf and Patio Party on Thursday July 21. at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling.
Annual Y’s Community Strong events provide the necessary funding to make NSYMCA programs accessible to those in need, providing families with after-school child care, life-saving swimming lessons, camp summer, special needs programs, support for seniors and much more. Community Strong events were revamped and renamed last year due to the effects of COVID. With needs greater than ever, both events allowed the Y to spread out its fundraising goals so it could sustain its financial aid program while rebuilding future Y operations and facilities.
“I have been humbled by the overwhelming support from our members, local businesses and the community at large during these difficult times,” said Kathy Fielding, CEO of the North Suburban YMCA. |Our Community Strong events not only help us continue to deliver our current programs to those in need, but they also help improve the health and well-being of all members of our community and strengthen the future of the Y to ensure that we can continue to serve the community for generations to come.”
The first of two fundraising events the week of May 1-6 is the Community Strong Dinner & Casino at Loft 21, a new venue for the Y. It will feature live music, a sit-down dinner, casino and silent and live auctions, which will be virtual and accessible to all. The venue was chosen for its 20-foot ceilings, large floor plan to spread out tables, and outdoor patio. The event will also include the annual presentation of the Ken and Alta Thiel Award for Social Responsibility and Leadership which will be awarded to Waterway Carwash, a St. Louis-based company that has grown to 4 locations since arriving in Northbrook there. at 7 years old. The Thiel Award was named in honor of North Suburban Y founders Ken and Alta Thiel.
“On behalf of Waterway, we are delighted to be this year’s winner,” said Jason Young, Managing Partner of Waterway. “The Y was one of our first community partners when we came to Northbrook in 2015 and we have always supported their mission for a stronger community. Being recognized for our efforts with the Y means so much. Our goal is to follow their example by continuing to support local initiatives, schools and community events for years to come.”
In July, the Community Strong golf event, presented by Northwestern Medicine, will begin with a shotgun tee time at 1:00 p.m., followed by a patio reception from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The release will feature the “Beat the Pro” contest sponsored by PGA Tour Superstore. , a chipping contest and fun new challenges added like the “best dressed” team prize. Last year, the event sold out, had more than 40 sponsors, and raised over $38,000 in net funds to help the Y and support families who depend on financial assistance to participate in programs. of the Y.
Formerly the Strong Kids Fundraising Dinner, Community Strong’s mission is to raise funds for the 1 in 5 attendees at YMCA North Suburban who receive financial assistance. The annual event raises approximately 50% of the $500,000 in scholarships needed for the year. At the height of the pandemic in 2021, the NSYMCA renamed the event to cover much-needed funds to “strengthen the Y” and keep the organization and its facilities strong for future generations. To date, the dinner has raised over $4 million, helping over 2,700 families a year to benefit from Y programs and services.
